Rockford native and former Christian Life basketball star Joel Box is paying it forward to the game he loves this weekend – hosting a two-day youth skills clinic, which wrapped up on Saturday in Loves Park.
The camp focused on developing important on-court skills for fifth through eighth graders, which Box says is an important time for young players to fine-tune their abilities.
“I really enjoy working with that age group because they haven’t tapped into their skillsets yet,” Box said. “I’m big on footwork, ball handling, things like that…I put the kids in game-like environments, and then just rep it out.”
“It means a whole lot to me – this is something I’ve wanted to do for a while…to be able to come back to a community where I was born and raised and give back, means the world to me,” Box added, who now resides in Quincy.
