ROCKTON (WREX) — Excitement filled the air as students arrived at Hononegah Community High School Friday morning. Students quickly gathered in the gymnasium. It was silent for a second. Just in time for the big surprise.
Students, teachers and faculty and staff at Hononegah Community High School gathered to celebrate and surprise Principal Eric Flohr with the 2019 Outstanding Principal Award.
“It’s It’s an overwhelming day for me. For me to come into the gymnasium and see it packed with students and teachers and what a crowd,” said Principal Flohr.
A crowd filled with more than 1,200 excited students in the school community. A community, his colleagues say, he always puts ahead of himself.
“He’s about the students and that’s the way it should be and that’s why he’s good at what he does,” said Randy Weibel, a physical education teacher and basketball coach at the school.
“It’s a special day for Flohr for another reason as well. “It’s my anniversary today and what a way to spend an anniversary. I thought I was really good with sending my wife flowers,” said Flohr.
A special day with his 8-year-old daughter and wife, Carol Flohr, who says her husband has not changed one bit. “He’s the same guy. A little greyer, but the same guy,” she said.
Husband, father, principal. His accomplishments go way beyond this award as he continues to be a part of something bigger than himself.
“It’s been a terrific journey,” said Flohr.
