Freeport Art Museum breaks ground on downtown arts plaza

FREEPORT (WREX) — A new arts center is one step closer to becoming a reality for downtown Freeport.

The Freeport Art Museum broke ground on the new arts plaza Friday afternoon.

The plaza will have a stage for summer concerts and a splash pad.

The art museum says its excited to be a destination for the Pretzel City.

“What we will do is provide the community with a public space that utilizes the arts to inspire residents and visitors to enjoy our downtown in new ways,” said Jessica Modica, Executive Director of the Freeport Art Museum.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
