FREEPORT (WREX) — The man charged in the death of Illinois State Police Trooper Brooke Jones-Story has his bond lowered Friday in court.

Craig Dittmar appeared via video conference in a Stephenson County Courtroom Friday.

A judge reduced Dittmar’s bond from $250,000 to $100,000, according to the Stephenson County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Illinois State Police said Dittmar, of Stockton, was driving a semi March 28 on Route 20 just west of Route 75 when he lost control and hit Trooper Brooke Jones-Story, who was inspecting another semi.

On April 11, the Stephenson County State’s Attorney’s Office announced charges against Dittmar with two counts of reckless homicide and one count of operating a commercial motor vehicle while fatigued causing death.

Dittmar posted bond and was released just before 4:30 p.m., according to the Stephenson County Jail.

Dittmar is due in court for a preliminary hearing April 25 at 9 a.m.

Trooper Brooke Jones-Story is the third Illinois State Police trooper hit and killed in 2019 in Illinois.
