ROCKFORD – Carl Armato is back in the high school basketball coaching game on a more permanent basis. Armato accepted the Guilford head coaching job after serving as the interim head coach for the 2nd half of last season.

Armato is a coaching veteran, with stops as the Rock Valley College head coach and as an NIU assistant on his resume. He knows the Rockford basketball scene very well, and brings a lot of respect with him to the job. He helped the Vikings to a strong finish after head coach Antonio Maestranzi was placed on administrative leave following a DUI arrest. Armato looks forward to taking on this challenge next year.

“With this decision, we’re looking to establish continuity in the basketball program,” Armato said. “I enjoyed helping the last two years under Dean Martinetti and Antonio Maestranzi. I’ve had an opportunity to establish and build relationships with most of the players in the program. I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to Rockford Public Schools and Guilford High School’s  administration, as well as acknowledging my wife and family for their support in this decision.

“To aid in the transitional process, Chris Dixon has accepted the position of associate head coach and is ready to lead the program when I step down,” Armato continued. “Chris is an excellent coach and even better person.”

Dixon has served as an assistant at East and Jefferson in recent years.
