Man indicted on 21 charges in Roscoe abduction, sexual assault case

ROSCOE (WREX) — A man faces up to life in prison for allegedly abducting and violently sexually assaulting a woman in Roscoe.

Matthew S. Harkey, 43, is indicted on 21 charges, including attempted first degree murder charges, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Harkey also faces aggravated criminal sexual assault, home invasion, and aggravated kidnapping charges, among a laundry list of other charges.

Roscoe Police say Matthew Harkey is accused of abducting a woman, who later escaped and went to police. The woman had injuries to her head, according to police.

He was arrested in March in downstate Illinois after a multi-county chase.

Harkey will appear in court in front of Judge Joe McGraw on April 30 at 9 a.m.
