FREEPORT – The Highland Community College softball team picked up a pair of wins over Kishwaukee in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, winning game 1 by a final score of 8-7, and following that up with a 5-4 win in the 2nd game.
Abigail Husemann picked up the win in the circle in game 1, and also provided some timely hits at the plate. Highland built a 7-1 lead, but Kishwaukee battled back to make it 7-5. Highland added a run in the 6th inning to make it 8-5, and they needed that extra insurance run. Rochelle grad Jessica Meyers drove home a pair of runs in the 7th to make it an 8-7 game, but Husemann induced a pop out to end it on the next batter.
Highland then picked up a 5-4 win in game 2 behind a strong effort from Pearl City’s Kendra Melville.
