Two separate construction projects set to begin on I-39

LEE COUNTY (WREX) — With spring season in full swing, it means the return of construction.

Two separate construction projects are set to begin on Interstate 39 in in the stateline.

The first project will repair the bridge carrying Creston Rd. over I-39, near Rochelle. There will be nightly lane closures on I-39 northbound and southbound between IL Rt. 38 and I-88. This will be followed by barrier wall lane closures in each direction until the completion of median crossovers.

The project will cost a little more than $1.7 million. The project is set to be complete by August 15, 2019.

The second project will begin April 15th. 19 miles of pavement center line and shoulder joints will be cleaned and sealed from the Lee County Line to just N. of Baxter Rd.

There will be nightly lane closures each direction from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. The project cost $666,360 and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2019.

Drivers should expect delays when traveling for both of these projects.
