LOVES PARK (WREX) – A second grader at St. Bridget’s Catholic School did something a little out of the ordinary to nominate her teacher for Teacher of the Week.

Gracie Schmidt decided to write and handwritten letter and mail it to WREX to nominate her her teacher Mrs. Hansen.

“She’s funny, smart and tells cool stories,” Schmidt said about her teacher.

Pamela Hansen has been a teacher for over 30 years, and she has been at St. Bridget’s for 12 years, but she said it’s not hard coming to school everyday when it doesn’t feel like work.

“I’ve always loved it. It’s never felt like a job for me.It’s always been something I’ve loved. When I was in kindergarten I came home and told my mom that I wanted to be a teacher and I’ve never wanted to do anything else since,” Hansen said.

She said she has taught many different grades and subjects, but her favorite is second grade. And her favorite part of the job is getting to spend her days with her little ones.

“They become my family for the year, it’s like having my own grandchildren, just sharing life with them and everything it entails,” Hansen said.

Hansen is humble and soft-spoken, but her kindness is undeniable, and her experience makes her a pillar of knowledge for the school.

“She’s definitely an asset to the school with her years of experience and she’s well known as a teacher that’s a favorite to parents and for the students as well,” St. Bridget’s Principal Mary Toldo said.
