The Rockford Park District hosted a large group of local young female basketball players for their Elite Girls Basketball Camp at the UW Health Sports Factory on Saturday.

Local coaches and trainers from Rockford, including RPS 205 and Rock Valley College, shared their tricks of the trade, and were joined by two WNBA players – Cappie Pondexter of the Indiana Fever, and Linnae Harper of the Chicago Sky.

“Oh it’s exciting to be able to come and share my knowledge. To be here a second time and see improvement and the participation go up, that makes me really happy inside because it shows you the youth, although statistically it says we’re lacking, today it shows we’re really not. When opportunities come up and more role models come out, to support camps like this, the girls and guys get enthused about situations like this, i’m really happy to be here to give my time,” said Pondexter.
