ROCKFORD (WREX) — Auburn High School graduates are launching a scholarship opportunity as a way of giving back.

“It’s just important for me to give back to this community and finally being in a position to have some more substantial power to encourage and inspire a younger generation,” 2012 Auburn graduate Haley Vincent said.

For the first time, Haley Vincent and other 2012 Auburn High School alumni are offering a $1,000 scholarship.

The former students say the scholarship can be for anyone pursuing college or a trade.

There’s a recommended GPA of 3.0 but the Class of 2012 says they will consider applicants with any GPA.

“Everyone in this school has a passion, everyone in this school has a story,” Vincent said. “We didn’t feel like it was our place to limit which passions and which stories deserve to be rewarded.”

This opportunity is open to all current Auburn graduating seniors.

The Class of 2012 will award the scholarship to one winner.
