Rock River reaches record level in Machesney Park

ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Rock River, near Latham Park in Machesney Park, has set a new record as of Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the Rock hit 14.32 feet at 12 p.m., surpassing the previous record of 14.3 feet. That record is expected to get even higher as the day moves on.  The NWS projects the river could reach as high as 14.5 feet by Monday morning.

We have already seen flooding problems along the Rock River from downtown Rockford up to Machesney Park. The river reached major flood stage in Machesney Park on Friday and is expected to recede from that category until the end of this week.

The Rock has also reached major flood stage in Rockton, while it remains at minor flood stage at Auburn Street and near flood stage at the Fordam Dam in Rockford.

The City of Freeport is seeing major flooding Sunday as the Pecatonica River continues to rise.

We will have complete coverage of the flooding throughout the week on 13 News.
