MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) — A Rockford man was sentenced Thursday for a 2017 traffic crash that caused the deaths of four family members in West Virginia.

On April 13, 2017 Copeland’s tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate 77 near Camp Creek when it crossed the medium, hitting a passenger vehicle. David and Christine Gilley of Salisbury, NC and their two children Jack and Grace were killed in the collision.

Copeland’s trial occurred last week. Magistrate Dorsey allowed the victims’ family to give statements before delivering the sentence. One family members told Magistrate Dorsey she didn’t feel any hate, bitterness or unforgiveness in her heart.
