WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — Flooding is expected to worsen by early next week as water continues to rise on area rivers.

The Pecatonica and Rock rivers are either at major flood stage, or will get there by the end of the weekend.
The Rock River will crest in the Rockford, Loves Park and Machesney Park area on Tuesday. It’s expected to be several inches above what neighbors along the river saw in 2008.

The river levels, in general, will stay steady or fall slowly next week, so prepare for flooding to last for at least another week.

Free sandbags are available at Roscoe Public Works on Swanson Road in Roscoe, the southwest lot of the former Machesney Park mall on North Second Street, and the New Milford Fire Station on Will James Road.

Officials urge you to stay away from the flood waters, and take action to protect your property now if major flooding levels will affect it.
