DEKALB – East trailed by as many as 14 points in the 2nd quarter, but Sincere Parker scored 27 points and Chris Burnell had 16 to lead an E-Rabs comeback, as they beat Geneva, 70-62, in the 4-A NIU Super-Sectional to solidify a trip to state. It will be East’s first trip to state in 41 years.
East got off to a slow start, trailing 16-6 after one. They got into a bigger hole midway through the 2nd quarter before chipping away and making it a 33-27 game at halftime.
In the third quarter, Parker and Burnell stepped up. They hit big shot after big shot, giving East a 44-43 lead late in the 3rd quarter. A Parker slam early in the 4th quarter brought the E-Rab faithful to their feet at the Convocation Center, and the E-Rabs never looked back. Sha’den Clanton chipped in 14 points for East, as they head to the state semifinals in Peoria Friday.
East will take on Evanston in the first 4-A semifinal of the night at 5:30. Evanston defeated Stevenson, 57-45 in overtime, to qualify for state.
