ROCKFORD (WREX) – A group that helps teach musicians how to be in bands has opportunities coming up for kids to join its camp.
The Rock and Roll Institute, which just became a non-profit, has new scholarships available for this year. The organization offers both ability-based and needs-based scholarships to kids to help partially or fully cover the cost of attending camp for one week. At the camp, participants learn how to start bands and work together.
“I think Rock and Roll Institute is important because as I said earlier, there are a lot of students who know how to play their instruments, but being in a band is a lot more complicated than just knowing how to play,” said Rock and Roll Institute Camp Director Kevin Schwitters.
The institute will start accepting scholarship applications on April 1 and will continue accepting them until May 1. The winners will be announced on May 8. The camp is from June 17 – 21 and June 24 – 28.
