ROCKFORD (WREX) – The wait to rebuild a facility that was lost in a fire in January continues.

The Rockford Township Highway Department building at 404 N. Springfield Ave., caught fire, leading to the loss of multiple vehicles and equipment. The West Suburban Fire Department declared the building a total loss.

But the investigation into the fire has been delayed by the weather, causing the demolition and site clearing to be put on hold as well. Despite the delay, Rockford Township Highway Commissioner Dan Conness says work on the roads has not been affected.

“Nothing has changed as far as the work that the workers have been doing,” said Conness. “We still are plowing the roads, we’re doing salting, maintaining all the roadways. Nothing has changed.”

Conness adds fire inspectors are scheduled to come on March 25 to continue their investigation into the cause of the fire.
