BELOIT (WREX)- Beloit Police say that serious crime continues to drop.

The department says that serious crime is down 9% from 2017 to 2018, and 12% from 2016 to 2018.

Violent crime is also down 5% from 2016 to 2018, according to the department.

In 2018, the department says Beloit had one homicide and three shootings. Shots fired decreased more than 60% last year compared to 2016.

“I see a very strong trend in that reduction,” said Chief David Zibolski. “Not only in that violent crime but in crime in general. The burglaries, the thefts, you just feel the city is safer. That’s not just from a statistical perspective, but it is palpable and you can feel that. When you talk to people they give you that same kind of feedback.”

2019 goals for Beloit Police include becoming fully staffed, expanding focus on traffic issues and planning for a future law enforcement facility.
