Women identified in deadly McHenry County crash

ALDEN TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WREX) – The woman killed in a two-vehicle crash on Friday in McHenry County has been identified.

Gladys Grashel, 80, of Harvard was killed in a crash in Alden Township, McHenry County, according to Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz. She died at Mercyhealth’s Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside Campus after an airlift transport.

A 58-year-old Harvard man and a 55-year-old McHenry woman were also hurt in the crash. They were treated for minor injuries.

Officials say the crash happened near the intersection of Alden Road and Thayer Road around 3:45 p.m.

According to investigators, a Chevrolet was heading west on Thayer Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. That’s when officials say a Mitsubishi Outlander heading south hit the Chevrolet.

Investigators say seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
