The East E-Rabs left no doubt playing in Rockford for the 4-A sectional championship, defeating South Elgin 64-54 at Rock Valley College to advance to Super-Sectionals.
East added to its already historic win total, improving to 33-2 this season. The E-Rabs will face Geneva in Tuesday’s 4-A Super-Sectional at NIU’s Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 7:30 pm.
The Storm lived up to their nickname and stormed out to a 21-18 first quarter advantage in front of a sold-out crowd at RVC, anchored by center Vincent Miszkiewicz, who dunked his way to a strong start, and ultimately finished with 18 points.
The E-Rabs got Miszkiewicz into second quarter foul trouble, and raced to a 20-11 advantage in that frame to bring a 38-32 lead into the half. East then held South Elgin to just four points in the third quarter, leading 48-36 heading to the final stanza.
South Elgin got hot from three-point range, hitting four threes in a row to cut the deficit to 57-54. However, Sha’den Clanton slammed any hopes of a comeback away, with an emphatic and-one throwdown that sent the gym into a frenzy, and ignited a 7-0 East run to end the game.
Clanton was one of four E-Rabs to register double figures in scoring with 14 points. He was joined by Chris Burnell’s 16 points, Sincere Parker’s 13 points, and Andres Thompson’s 10 points to round out a balanced East offensive attack. The E-Rabs outrebounded the Storm 43-27, including a 17-6 advantage on the offensive glass.
