DIXON – Dixon senior guard and all-time leading scorer Beau Bailey is our WREX Athlete of the Week.
Bailey has put together a historic career on the stat sheet for the Dukes, now the king of boys basketball scoring. He’s done it all at all times for Dixon, including a memorable postseason last year with a couple of crazy buzzer beaters. He’s become an all-around threat offensively.
“I would say I was more of a shooter, but now I have to evaluate my skills,” Bailey says. “I have to become more of a player, drive better, finish through contact.”
“They’ll try guarding you different ways,” head coach Chris Harmann says when he recalls talking to Bailey about approaching opposing defenses. “You’re going to get different looks. Just understand it will come in different areas, it might come in different times of the game, and just take what they give you.”
Harmann adds that even though he’s Dixon’s all-time leading scorer in boys basketball history, he doesn’t let others know about it – he lets his game do the talking.
“He has acknowledged at different times what his teammates have done for him to get there,” Harmann said. “That’s an important piece of growing up as a young man.”
Dixon’s season and Bailey’s career came to a close Wednesday night with a 46-39 loss to Peoria Notre Dame in the Sectional semifinals.
