ROCKFORD (WREX) — Do you know how many countries the longest river in the world flows through? A student in Rockford does and he’s headed to a state geography competition.

Keith Country Day School 8th grader Billy Fitton qualified to compete in the 2019 National Geographic Geo Bee.

Fitton will compete against 100 other students in Illinois later this month.

“I’m very excited to go down to and be apart of the Geo Bee and I am happy to have gotten this far,” said Fitton.

Also competing from our area is Calvin Smith at Thurgood Marshall School.

The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a spot in the national Geo Bee competition in Washington, D.C.
