ROCKFORD (WREX) – Just over two weeks ago, a gunman opened fire on his former co-workers at an Aurora plant and killed five of them. The topic workplace violence took center stage in Rockford on Tuesday.

The 21st Annual Human Resources & Benefits Seminar is meant for local business leaders and hosted by a company called 2HB. An officer shared tips on workplace violence prevention and response, and demonstrated how those business leaders can protect themselves and their employees.

“If you have an employee who’s behavior has suddenly changed, that’s a good time to maybe take a good look at what’s happening on social media. Is something happening at home? Do you have an employee assistance program that perhaps we need to refer that employee to?” said Laurie Miller, 2HB President.

Another tip to avoid workplace violence is to notify police ahead of time if you think a situation could upset an employee.
