ROCKFORD – The East E-Rabs improved to 32-2 this year, defeating St. Charles North, 51-46, in the 4-A Sectional semifinals at Rock Valley College.

Playing in front of a packed house at RVC’s P.E. Center, the E-Rabs raced out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and took a 27-15 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The North Stars chipped away in a sluggish third quarter, getting as close as 29-25 before a late East push to end the frame sent the semifinal to the fourth with the E-Rabs leading 37-30.

East took a ten-point lead at one point in the fourth, then had to hold off one more St. Charles North charge before closing out the victory at the free throw line.

Sha’den Clanton paced East with 14 points, with Chris Burnell and Sincere Parker each contributing 13 points. The E-Rabs struggled against St. Charles North’s defense, shooting 39% from the field and just 3-13 from three-point range (23%). Now East awaits the winner of the South Elgin-Harlem Sectional semifinal on Wednesday with Friday’s sectional championship on the horizon.
