Friday Night Nets delivered an all-postseason edition of high school basketball on February 22 as local teams took the court for high stakes playoff games across the region.
Scores and summaries are organized by class as follows:
Class 1-A Girls State Semifinals
Eastland 64, Tri-County 63 – Erin Henze’s 25 points and Lydia Coatney’s 19 points powered the Lady Cougars to the 1-A state championship game against defending title-holding Schlarman on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Redbird Arena.
Class 1-A Boys Regional Finals
Polo 77, Aquin 74 – Braiden Soltow’s 28 points and Brady Webb’s 18 points paced the Marcos to their first regional championship in a decade. Polo will face River Ridge in the East Dubuque sectional semifinals on Tuesday.
Forreston 48, Dakota 45 (4OT) – Braedon Fyock’s 34 points and buzzer-beating three in QUADRUPLE overtime put the Cardinals over the edge in an instant classic regional final. The Cardinals face East Dubuque in the sectional semifinals.
River Ridge 58, Pearl City 53 – The Wildcats eked out a close regional final against the Wolves, and River Ridge next faces a red-hot Polo team in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday at East Dubuque.
East Dubuque 48, Lena-Winslow 30 – The #1 seed in their half of the bracket, East Dubuque dominated Lena-Winslow and will now be at home in the 1-A sectional semifinals against Forreston on Wednesday.
Class 2-A Boys Regional Finals
Winnebago 63, Byron 57 – T.C. Williams’ 22 points and Casey Nsamba’s 17 points helped lead last year’s 2-A runners-up to a regional championship over their BNC rivals from Byron. The Indians head to the Riverdale sectional semifinals, drawing Sterling Newman on Wednesday.
