BELVIDERE (WREX) — Crawford, a soft coated wheaten shown by a Belvidere couple, has won Best in Breed at the Westminster Dog Show.
Local business owners Kent and Gwen Meyer and the dog they show will now move on to the terrier group competition. The competition will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 at 7:30 p.m. It will move on to the Best in Show competition.
Crawford is a 4-year-old soft coated wheaten terrier from Naperville. He competed among 15 other top ranked soft coated wheaten terriers in the nation.
There is only one best of breed winner per each of the 202 different first round competitions. From there, each breed winner competes in one of seven different group competitions. From there, the winner from each of the seven groups will compete for the Best in Show Westminster Title.
There were approximately 30 different terrier breeds competing in the Terrier group. Crawford made the top four but was not selected as the winner. That went to King the Wire Fox Terrier, who ended up also winning Best of Show.
