ROCKFORD (WREX) – What if you wanted to go ice skating but didn’t want to drive to a rink? One Rockford teen doesn’t have to worry about that because he built a rink in his backyard.

Brent Brunner is a senior at Rockford Christian who has been playing hockey for more than 10 years. He set up a rink in his backyard that is 40 by 60 feet.

Brent’s dad started building the rink seven years ago, but Brent slowly took over. He says he likes to have friends come over and play hockey. And the weather that the area has been getting makes it all so much better.

“We didn’t start skating until the middle of January,” said Brunner. “With all the cold days we’ve had and of course with days like today, it’s perfect for it.”

Brunner says he will miss the rink when he has to go to college next year.
