Rockford PD asks city council for $1.6 million in vehicle upgrades

ROCKFORD (WREX) – The Rockford Police Department is asking for more money for new upgrades from city council on Monday evening.

The finance committee will consider a plan for $1.6 million for the department.

It would go toward replacing firearms and new portable radios.

The big ticket items are about 30 new police SUVs, vans and sedans for the department.

All of those vehicles would also need to be equipped with gun racks, technology and partitions.
