The Toronto Raptors will be without Rockford native Fred VanVleet for approximately three weeks as he recovers from a left thumb injury, the team announced on Monday.
The Raptors added that VanVleet will wear a splint and be re-evaluated after that three-week period. The team described the reason for his absence as a “partial ligament injury.”
VanVleet has appeared in 51 games this season for Toronto, averaging 10.5 points per game and 4.6 assists per game. The Raptors are 41-16, one game behind Milwaukee for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Multiple media outlets reported Monday that the team will sign Jeremy Lin after his contract buyout from the Atlanta Hawks, adding now needed depth to the back court with VanVleet out for an extended length of time.
