MILWAUKEE (AP) — A $1 million cash bond has been set for a Milwaukee man charged with killing a police officer during a drug raid on the suspect’s home last week. Twenty-six-year Jordan P. Fricke appeared in court Sunday after he was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the fatal shooting Wednesday of 35-year-old Officer Matthew Rittner. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday. Fricke remains in jail. His attorney, Michael L. Chernin, declined comment.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Liberals are optimistic about taking over majority control of Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, with a critical election two months away that will serve as both a barometer of the state’s political mood heading into the 2020 presidential contest and set the stage for a pivotal court race next year. If the liberal candidate wins the April 2 Supreme Court race, conservatives would have to win the 2020 election that’s on the same day as Wisconsin’s presidential primary when Democratic turnout is high.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Tony Evers wants to let environmental officials borrow nearly $70 million more over the next two years to address groundwater contamination. The plan calls for an additional $3 million in borrowing authority to fund grants for farmers to build infrastructure to reduce nonpoint water pollution and $65 million in additional borrowing authority to fund grants to local governments to reduce storm water runoff; address contaminated soil; and fund municipal loans for replacing lead pipes.
MENOMONIE, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say at least three snowmobilers were killed in weekend crashes in Wisconsin. In western Wisconsin, a 28-year-old man from rural Boyceville was killed when he crashed on Saturday. Authorities in northeastern Wisconsin say a woman was killed Saturday night when her snowmobile collided with a car. In northern Wisconsin, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office says a 43-year-old woman died after her snowmobile collided with a semi-truck Friday.
