WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — The flu continues to spread across the country and there’s still no sign the season has reached its peak.

The Centers for Disease Control reports the flu has increased in recent weeks and is now considered widespread in 47 of the 50 states.  Still, the CDC says we’re nowhere near the high levels of flu activity we saw last year.

Locally, the Winnebago County Health Department reports its highest number of flu cases yet this year. 86 cases of the flu were reported between Jan. 20-26, its most recent reporting week.

So far this season, the health department has reported 274 cases of the flu.
