ROCKTON (WREX) — A date has been set for the demolition on the building formerly known as Rockton Grade School.
Work will begin on Feb. 11. Contractors will begin mobilizing large mechanical equipment, while actual demolition is expected to take about 3 weeks once the equipment is in place.
Hononegah’s school district leaders say the amount of lead paint, mold and overall unsafe conditions will not allow for further salvaging of materials. The historic stone facade on the east side of the building will be removed before demolition for future use by the district. Bricks from the older portion of the building will be made available to the public after demolition.
Property that is currently used for parking will still be in use and the remainder of the property will be graded and seeded. The Board of Education is still reviewing options for future use of the property.
