ROCKFORD (WREX) — Snow will transform into works of art this weekend at Sinnissippi Park.
The Rockford Park District is hosting its annual Snow Sculpting Competition. Teams from all over the state are in Rockford to compete for the most creative snow sculpture.
It’s an annual even that brings more than 30,000 visitors to Sinnissippi Park each year.
“They want all to understand the fleeting nature of art, but also really appreciate that they can take this block of snow and see something amazing in it and show it to us,” Rockford Park District Outdoor Recreation Manager Becky Lambert said.
The winner of the snow sculpting competition will represent Illinois in the U.S. Nationals Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva. The high school division of the competition begins Thursday.
