ROCKFORD (WREX) – An assistant principal in Rockford is headed to one of the best schools in the country after winning a competition.

East High School’s Rachel Lathrop is the winner of the Investing in Excellence: Assistant Principal Development Program. Each year an assistant principal from the region is selected from applications submitted to go to the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

“I’m excited and I feel honored. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the administrators,” said Lathrop.

In order to qualify, the assistant principal must anticipate becoming a principal and be in good standing with their district.

The Golden Apple Foundation and Ramussen College announced this year’s winner.
