Cherry Valley Elementary School named their new gym after a former resident who received the Medal of Honor. It was a ceremony that gave his daughters, Nichole and Jacquiline, pride.
“Today with the gymnasium being in my fathers name that’s going to be there for years, is amazing.” said Nichole Siccardi.
The new gym is called the Leonard B. Keller Gymnasium.
Keller served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
His daughters’ hope is that when kids see this dedicated space, they know how important the man behind it was.
“I hope whenever people see the plaque and kids come through and read the story, I hope they can see how courageous he was, how willing he was, if he had to give up his own life.” said Jacquiline Mitchell.
Keller passed away in 2009, he’s buried at the Arlington National Cemetery.
