ROCKFORD (WREX) — A man is arrested for shooting a gun at home, and was caught thanks to technology used by the Rockford Police Department.

Ernesto Sanchez was taken in to custody after police say he fired a gun several times Monday in the 1100 block of North Sunset Avenue.

After a standoff lasted hours, he was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and not having a FOID card.

Police initially responded to a ShotSpotter alert. The gunfire detection equipment was installed in parts of the city that are prone to gun violence. It can pinpoint the location of gunfire or detect it within a small area.
