The high school boys bowling season is off and rolling with local teams and individual athletes making plans for next week’s sectional round – with the state series on the horizon.
Hononegah and Harlem have traded state championships in recent years, and the Indians beat the Huskies by just five pins for the team regional title at Cherry Bowl. Justin Mooney paced Hononegah with a 1424 score. Harlem’s Ethan Pash had the best individual score of the regional with a 1437.
Rockford Christian and Belvidere were the other two advancing teams from this regional. Advancing individuals are John Jurgens of Guilford, the Belvidere North quartet of Cal Taylor, Nole Hefty, Gabriel Lord, and Justin Bragg, as well as South Beloit’s Brandon Redieske.
The Freeport regional sent the Pretzels, Boylan, Auburn, and Oregon to next week’s sectional. Oregon’s Austin Strite had the best individual score, while Freeport won the team regional title by 24 pins over the Knights.
Advancing individuals out of Freeport – Jefferson’s Landen Cowell, East’s Corbyn Villarreal, Rochelle’s Brady Shank, and the Dixon trio of Trevor White, Jacob Wickert, and Tyler Yocom.
