BELOIT (WREX) — A job training program that helps at-risk youth in Beloit is getting national attention.
“We talk with the students about how their work locally is inspirational also nationally because other programs can look at some of the stuff that we’re doing locally and say ‘hey, this may work in our community or in our program as well,'” Fresh Start Program Manager William Chatman said.
Beloit’s Fresh Start program earned the Exceptional Culture of Service Award presented by Youthbuild Americorps.
Beloit Fresh Start is part of Community Action Incorporated.
The co-op of resources offers over 20 youth success-building programs to 2 Stateline counties.
“We bring a lot of stakeholders to the table to work with our young people and get them the things that they need,” Chatman said.
Beloit Fresh Start beat out nearly 250 programs nationwide.
