ROCKFORD (WREX) — Smoke detectors save lives—that’s why Rockford firefighters want you to have one.

The American Red Cross and the Rockford Fire Department will install free smoke detectors on Saturday.

Volunteers are canvassing Rockford’s Signal Hill Neighborhood to search for houses in need prior to the event.

“The importance of having working smoke alarms and the importance of closing your door, which is the other campaign we will be starting this year too, is promoting that,” Rockford Fire Div. Chief Matt Knott said. “Simple things like that keep individuals from smoke and allow you that extra time to get your family out safely.”

If you live in the Signal Hill Neighborhood and you want a free smoke alarm installed, CLICK HERE to register or call 815-963-8471 ex. 8822.
