One of the most common New Year’s resolution across the country is healthier eating.
However, it can be hard to stick with the plan as we get later and later into the New Year.
So, 13 News met with Food 4 Fuel Owner Jim McIlroy to get some tips to make meal prepping and sticking to your resolutions a little bit easier.
He says the most important part is setting a realistic goal for yourself.
“One of the biggest things we say is drink more water, less of everything else. Eat more food to fuel your body, less consuming for comfort.”, said McIlroy, “And third is to exercise more and do it in a community, and have somebody who can hold you accountable.”
Another big part of healthy eating is portion control. In the some of meals provided by Food 4 Fuel, there are 4 ounces of protein, half a cup of a carbohydrate, and 3/4 cup of a vegetable.
Finally, two good “hacks” Jim swears by, are frozen vegetables and baking or roasting your food.
“These days if you look at the ingredients on the back of frozen vegetables, there’s nothing in them It just says broccoli, or green beans. They are just as good as fresh.” said McIlroy.
The frozen bags or microwave steam vegetables make it easier to get your meal prepping done faster. The same goes with baking or roasting your food. Being able to prep your food, and then just throw it in the oven for 30 minutes is a good way to make it, and forget about it. It then also gives you time to get other parts of your meal prepping done.
