Public hearing set for historic status of Rockford Diocese chancery building

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A public hearing is scheduled for next month on whether the City of Rockford should make the Rockford Diocese’s chancery building a historic landmark.

This comes after the diocese said last month it plans to tear the chancery building down.

The former chancery and bishop’s residence is located on North Court Street. It has been vacant since 2009.

The diocese already started demolition on that site but the Friends of Ziock sent an application to the city to try and save it.

The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the city council chambers at Rockford City Hall.
