Rockford (WREX) – Sunday has been cloudy and highs today will only get into the upper 30’s. Overall, it has been a fair day, so far. We will have the winds pick up out of the east southeast at 15 mph with gusts reaching near 25 mph at times. This will be preparing us for what is to come Sunday night.
Sunday night will start off cloudy, but the rain will fall starting mainly after 11 PM and last through much of Monday. Otherwise, we can expect temperatures to go no lower then the upper 30’s overnight and breezy conditions sticking around with winds increasing as the winds shift more southerly. We can be a bit more exact by saying these winds are out southeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Our rain totals for night will reach one-tenth to a quarter of an inch.
Monday will be reaching near the 50’s and (for some spots) into the 50’s. The very moist air will lead to around 1/2″ or more for rainfall through Monday. We are going to keep the breezy conditions as well with gusts still near 30 mph at times. The soggy weather should let up by Monday night as colder and drier air sweeps in behind our cold front. We will keep the chance for a stray rain shower or to linger into the night, but otherwise partly cloudy will be the biggest thing.
We will have another chance to break a record for Monday, January 7th as well. The record high for this day is 49 degrees and we are expecting some folks to climb into the 50’s. This will surpass our previous record made back in 1949.
Tuesday will be very breezy and a lingering shower might stick around before noon, but this time with the chances for snow mixed in. Thankfully, we’ll bring the sunshine back once again as we approach the middle of the work week, but we will be back into the 30’s starting Wednesday as well.
