Rock Valley College athletics had a day to remember during the first Saturday of the New Year.
The RVC softball team was honored with a ring ceremony, celebrating last season’s national championship run. It was the program’s fifth straight title. The Lady Golden Eagles unveiled the newest banner that hangs in the P.E. Center.
“Each year is a little bit different, the story is different, the biggest thing about this one was the grit our kids had, losing our first game at the national tournament in five years…and the toughness they showed, and the opportunity to bounce back and finish the deal they started,” said five-time title-winning head coach Darin Monroe.
The ceremony was sandwiched between an RVC basketball doubleheader, with both Golden Eagles teams earning victories over conference opponent Madison. Taylor Ignoto’s Lady Golden Eagles won 88-66, while Tim Sandquist’s men’s team battled to a 95-88 double overtime victory.
