BELVIDERE (WREX) — Downtown Belvidere is ready to spread some Christmas cheer.

More than 170 volunteers are painting business windows in downtown Belvidere.

It’s to prepare for the city’s annual Hometown Christmas set for this weekend.

The Chamber of Commerce and Midland States Bank organized the window painting and hopes people come out to appreciate the art.

“A great portion of those volunteers are students, from athletic groups, to art groups to student council,” Midland States Bank Branch Center Manager Shari Snyder said.

The Hometown Christmas celebration in Belvidere starts Friday. The events include a light parade at 5:30 p.m. and holiday events on State Street.
