Two killed in Illinois school bus crash

(NBC) – Two people are dead after a crash involving a bus carrying a high school girls’ basketball team.

Illinois State Police say the crash happened Wednesday night on a highway in McLean County.

The bus was hit head on by a semi truck going the wrong way.

Police have confirmed that the driver of that semi-truck and a 72 year old passenger on the bus were both killed.

On board the bus was the Normal West JV High School girls basketball team, which a returning home from a game in Champaign.

11 people were on and board and all of the students were taken to hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

Local hospitals report that at least three adults were being treated, one in critical condition, two in serious.

Investigators are still looking into why the semi-truck was going the wrong way.
