Suspect crashes after escaping deputies in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) – A police chase ends in a crash in Rockford.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were responding to a man wanted in a drug investigation on the far east side of Rockford.

That’s when the sheriff’s office says the man took off in a car. After a short chase, deputies called it off because the cars were reaching high speeds.

Shortly after they called off the chase, deputies received several 911 reports of a crash at the intersection of Forest Hills Road and Landstrom Road.

Authorities say the suspect crashed his car there. He was taken into custody and wasn’t hurt.

There’s no word on bystander injuries in the crash.

13 WREX will update this story as details become available.
