(WNYT) A Chicago woman says she’s traumatized for life because of what happened to her inside a Hampton Inn and Suites hotel in Albany, New York.

She’s now suing the Hilton hotel chain for $100 million.

The alleged incident happened in July 2015, but the victim didn’t find out about it until about 2 months ago.

The woman had just graduated from Albany Law School and was staying in town so that she could take the New York State Bar Exam.

Inside her hotel room, someone allegedly placed a hidden camera in her bathroom that recorded her taking a shower. The video was then posted on numerous X-rated websites.

On September 30, the woman received an email asking her if it was her in the video.

Subsequent emails were sent. The emailer told her “I’m a perv. I don’t hurt anyone. I like to watch. No need to worry about me.”

Later there were blackmail attempts. The emailer wanted thousands of dollars to remove the video from the internet.

The emailer threatened to send a link of the video to the woman’s friends, colleagues and former law school classmates.

Hilton has issued a statement reading: “The safety and security of our guests is our highest priority. We will continue to work with the authorities to discover the perpetrator and see that he/she is held accountable.”
