2 Rockford residents arrested after police seize 68 pounds of marijuana

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WREX) — Two Rockford residents and one man from California are arrested after Naperville Police seize 68 pounds of marijuana, two vehicles and $4,000 in cash, according to the Naperville Police Department.

Melissa Tavares, 23 of Rockford, and Edwin Mendoza, 27 of Rockford, face possession and possession with intent to deliver drug charges.

Another person, 22-year-old Cristian Valdivia of La Puente, Calif., is charged with cannabis trafficking, possession with intent to deliver and possession of cannabis.

Naperville Police said around 8:10 p.m. on Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Fesseneva Court for a report of possible drug-related activity.

Officers say the residence was rented from a popular home rental website and was possibly being used to conceal marijuana. Once inside, along with two cars and cash, detectives recovered approximately 68 pounds of cannabis with an estimated value of $311,000.

All three suspects are in custody at the Will County Jail.
