NIU extends Athletic Director, Sean Frazier, through 2023

DEKALB, Ill. (WREX) — Northern Illinois University is extending the contract of Sean Frazier, NIU
associate vice president and director of Athletics.

Frazier joined NIU in 2013 and has helped the school to the five highest Graduation Success Rate in school history. The GSR for 2017-2018 was at 86 percent, with five sports being at 100 percent success rate. Those sports were women’s basketball, women’s golf, gymnastics, women’s soccer and volleyball.

“I’m humbled, and appreciative of all students, staff and supporters that make up Huskie Nation,” Frazier said in a statement. “Although we have achieved many notable accomplishments, there is still much work yet to be done.”

Under Frazier, NIU’s football team has two Mid-American Conference Championships and appeared in the championship game four times.

NIU President Lisa Freeman will brief members of the Board of Trustees on the contract extension during their Thursday morning meeting.

“Our program is compliant with NCAA rules and regulations, and he is a nationally recognized advocate for diversity,” Freeman said. “He’s made the athletics program more self-sustaining during his tenure, and he continues to move it in that direction.”
