Rockford (WREX) — Creating a positive influence on our community is the main goal of ‘Positive Reflections’.

“We thought of doing different variety of projects throughout the year to not only unity the community, but help others.”

It started 11 years ago when Janene Stephenson felt a need to give back.

“I was a single parent, so I see the struggle a single parent has raising children. So just to have different projects to reach out and give them something back.” said Stephenson.

She wanted to do more for the city she’s lived in her entire life.

“If we create more projects in the community, and with the youth and try to get them involved, I think we can come together and I think it can be a better place.” said Stephenson.

Their main event is a holiday party that not only provides fun, but resources for those in need.

“I kind of made it a roundup of the organizations, so we have like 15 organizations that have tables, and at each table the organizations will give something free back to the community.”

Janene said 25 organizations actually showed up on Saturday, and they were able to give out 500 toys, 6 bikes and free food.

Being a part of the organization with his wife is something Lynn Stephenson is proud of.

“It really does, it is rewarding to see someone with such a giving heart.”

It also doesn’t surprise him that she wanted to do more for Rockford.

“Janene has always been a goer, a go getter and always wanted to do something.”

Janene Stephenson, inspiring 815, by spreading positivity to one person at a time.
